Scion’s rural fire team is working with international researchers and Fire and Emergency NZ to run test burns on crop stubble. This research will involve analysing how wildfires spread under various conditions, including different fuel types and weather patterns.

Learnings and improved models and predictions gained from test burns aim to enhance NZ’s resilience to wildfires, improve safety and response. The learnings will also help reduce the impact and frequency of wildfires.
